Forage Restoration
Forage Restoration, part of the Tame Hay and Forage Seed Insurance programs, compensates producers who lose their established tame hay or forage seed crops due to excessive moisture before {program_details::cutoff_date}.
You do not pay a separate premium for Forage Restoration, but you must also have Tame Hay and/or Forage Seed Insurance.
When you file a forage restoration claim, you may also qualify for a Tame Hay or a Forage Seed indemnity. A tame hay acreage that qualifies for a forage restoration payment is also eligible for Tame Hay Insurance coverage that crop year (if the total forage yield falls below coverage). The total of your Tame Hay or Forage Seed indemnity and Forage Restoration indemnity can not exceed the insured total Tame Hay or Forage Seed Insurance dollar coverage.
Under this program, producers receive an indemnity of ${program_details::coverage} for each eligible acre.
Note: There is a {program_details::deductible}% deductible on all Forage Restoration claims.

Eligibility
Eligible Producers
You are eligible for the Forage Restoration benefit if you have an active MASC Contract of Insurance, and have selected Tame Hay and/or Forage Seed Insurance. Landlords are not eligible for the Forage Restoration benefit.
Eligible Crops
Eligible tame hay crops include established acres of:
- alfalfa (including alfalfa seed)
- alfalfa / grass mixes
- grasses
Eligible forage seed crops include:
- alfalfa seed
- pedigreed timothy seed
- tall fescue seed
Note: Acres of tall fescue seed, tame hay, alfalfa seed, and pedigreed timothy seed must be insured under AgriInsurance to qualify for the Forage Restoration benefit.
Restrictions
An indemnity will not be paid if less than {program_details::min_acres} acres are damaged. The damaged acres must be in blocks of {program_details::min_block} acres or more, unless the entire acreage of a field is affected. A damaged acre is defined as having less than {program_details::min_ground_cover}% ground cover of tame species.
The Forage Restoration benefit only applies to established crops; consequently, crops sown in the spring or fall of the previous year are not eligible. Producers may insure newly sown forage crops under the Forage Establishment Insurance program.
Costs & Coverage
No premium is charged for Forage Restoration; it is a benefit that is included in the premium costs of Forage Seed Insurance.
Forage Restoration coverage is ${program_details::coverage} per acre, minus a {program_details::deductible}% deductible of the eligible acres.
Deadlines
| Date: | Last Day to... |
|---|---|
| March 31st |
|
| June 30th |
|
| October 1st |
Note: If such acres are continuously too wet to destroy by October 1st, they qualify for the Forage Restoration claim, and also qualify for Excess Moisture Insurance (EMI) the following spring, provided the crop is destroyed by June 10th. |
| June 20th (following year) |
Note: These forage seed crops are only eligible for Excess Moisture Insurance (EMI) the following spring, provided the acreage is destroyed by June 10th. |
* To qualify for an indemnity, an MASC adjustor must inspect all damaged acres before they are destroyed or put to an alternate use.
Claims
MASC only pays an indemnity for confirmed losses. Therefore, it is important to have an MASC adjustor inspect the damaged acres before they are destroyed.
To qualify for a claim, the ground cover of tame forage species must be below 75% as a result of excessive moisture.
A producer has 320 acres of insured tame hay. On June 2nd he registers a claim for a block of 80 acres damaged by excessive rainfall. An MASC adjustor inspects the damaged acres on June 4th. On June 15th, the producer destroys 65 of the damaged acres but leaves 15 acres.
| Indemnity Calculation | |
|---|---|
| Producer's Deductible | = total acres of tame hay x {program_details::deductible}% deductible = 320 x {program_details::deductible}% = 16 acres |
| Eligible Acres | = destroyed acres - acres left undestroyed = 80 acres - 15 acres = 65 acres |
| Indemnity | = (eligible acres - producer's deductible) x coverage = (65 acres - 16 acres) x ${program_details::coverage} = $2,940 |
Note: If your total tame hay yield falls below your tame hay coverage, you may also be eligible for a tame hay claim on the damaged acres. Any post-harvest claim may be reduced by the restoration benefit paid.
